Heroes Returns Tonight!

Well, reruns of Heroes return tonight.

The actual second season premiere isn’t until September 24.

But it’s refreshing to actually have a repeat of our favorite show back on NBC this evening. We’ll take that any time over the latest reality TV fare.

So tune in at 9 p.m. to watch Collision, the fourth episode from season one. This hour picks up with Claire on a table in the morgue and Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) on a table within the Primatech Paper headquarters.

Also, Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) has his first run-in with Mohinder, as the scientist tries to warn the politician about a certain evil-doer named Sylar.

It all goes down - again - tonight on NBC. Here’s a photo from the episode to whet your Heroes appetite:

Another Trekkie Comes to Heroes: Nichelle Nichols

Nichelle Nichols The connections between Star Trek and Heroes continue.

Zachary Quinto, of course, is joining the next installment of this movie franchise - and in new casting news, it’s been announced that another member of the original series is coming to Heroes for a bit.

Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) will be joining her Star Trek cast mate George Takei (Hikaru Sulu) on the NBC hit show next season.

According to reports, Nichols will have a recurring role on the show, appearing in five or six episodes.

Her addition was already hinted at recently by Heroes creator Tim Kring, when he told E! Online he was looking “for another face that will have a very similar impact” to genre fans as the casting of Takei did.

Heroes was the most successful drama series on NBC last year. Halfway through the first season, Takei joined the show as Kaito Nakamura, the father of a young Japanese Star Trek fan who can move through time and space using only his will.

Last month, word already leaked out that former Star Trek: Enterprise star Dominic Keating (Malcolm Reed) will be playing an Irish mobster during several episodes of the show’s second season.

Masi Oka and Tim Kring: Expect Plenty of Surpises

Masi Oka is a natural born Hiro.

As we all know, but The Boston Herald recently detailed, The Japan-born, California-raised actor nabbed an Emmy nomination for his role as Hiro Nakamura, a computer programmer turned time-traveling protagonist on the NBC hit drama Heroes.

Run, Hiro, Run! The series, which begins its second season Sept. 24, also earned an Emmy nod in the best show category.

“Personally, it is definitely an honor,” Oka said of his nomination. “To be part of this ensemble is just a gift. To have an Emmy nom is a cherry on top. We’re all proud of it.”

Heroes -  the standout hit of last season, also stars Ali Larter (“Final Destination”), Milo Ventimiglia (“Gilmore Girls”) and Hayden Panettiere (“Ice Princess”) as everyday people with superhuman abilities. But the show’s moral compass, Hiro, almost wasn’t part of the show, creator Tim Kring said during a recent conference call with reporters.

“When I read the first draft of the script, the character (Hiro) didn’t actually exist. There were a preponderance of characters that felt these powers were an affliction. The character was created to lighten up the initial script,” said Kring, whose writing credits also include “Crossing Jordan” and “Providence.”

Luckily, for Oka and for viewers, Kring opted for a positive presence.

“He embodies the sense of the Everyman. He kept his dream. To be able to live vicariously, to live my dreams through his dreams, is fantastic,” said Oka, 32.

Oka and Hiro share some similarities - Oka is trained in Kendo, Japanese sword fighting, and Hiro battled the heroes’ nemesis Sylar (Zachary Quinto) with an ancient Kensei sword - but Oka turns to real-life heroes for inspiration, not anime comic books as Hiro does.

“My real-life hero is my mother. Growing up, being raised by a single mom who came from Japan to America (to give me a better life) and gave up her entire life for me, I will never be able to repay what my mom has done for me,” Oka said.

The Brown University graduate also works for George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic special effects company when not acting.

With the season one DVD release scheduled for Aug. 28 and the Emmy Awards on Sept. 16, Oka and Kring hope to maintain the show’s momentum throughout the fall.

“It’s not pressure to top it, it’s pressure to keep it going. A show like this or this particular show has been defined by its ability to defy your expectations. People want to watch it because they don’t know where it is going to take them. We have extraordinary staff and cast,” said Kring. “We are on a big roll right now.”

Zachary Quinto to Attend First-Ever Heroes Convention

Sure, Heroes played a major role at Comic-Con this year. But that was a massive convention covering a countless number of movies and TV shows.

Now, however, it appears as though an event dedicated solely to our favorite show is headed to Great Britain.

The convention will be called Eclipse. It’s scheduled as a three-day event that will run from March 14-16. And they’ve lined up at least one impressive star so far for an appearance: Zachary Quinto.

Heroes Season Two Premiere Preview, Video Clip

Remember how season one of Heroes ended?

Once the crew learned How to Stop an Exploding Man, Hiro was taken back to feudal Japan.

It appears as though season two may pick up during this exact scene. Here’s a clip from a preview of the Heroes season premiere:

Hayden, Jansen Panettiere Go for a Stroll

No making out with co-star Nick D’Agosto in this picture.

Instead, Hayden Panettiere is simply walking down the street, hand in hand, with her 12-year old brother Jansen. They look like a cute family, don’t they?

It’s safe to assume Jansen will be in the same place we’ll all be at 9 p.m. on September 24: In front of the TV, watching the second season premiere of Heroes.

Hayden Panettiere Talks Blood, Guts, Heroes Season Two

On a conference call with reporters this morning, Hayden Panettiere provided a great deal of insight into our favorite show.

For starters, the young actress will be jetting across Europe as part of the Heroes world tour. She’s most excited about visiting. Considering that the show’s second season is currently in full production, this may mean less Claire Bennet in the initial episodes.

Save Me, Save the World When we do see the cheerleader, however, it may not be the same sunny, homecoming queen-type stereotype of a character we were treated to last season. Panettiere said there would be a bit more behind Claire this year than in the past - which makes sense, based on what she’s gone through.

Oddly enough, Hayden also said she’s love to go all Sylar on viewers. The idea of playing a villain appeals to her.

“In the show, anything is possible. You never know what is going to happen. I doubt it, but anything is possible.”

During the call, Hayden was actually watching the Heroes DVD box set and marveling over the sheer number of extras involved on it. She’s a good little PR vixen for a DVD that’s being billed as one of the most fan friendly sets in the history of television, replete with more commentaries and extras than other series.

In closing, Panettiere responded to a question about all the blood and guts on the show - especially considering how she got messier than most actors on the show. What was it like to work with all those prosthetics?

“It was sticky,” she said. “It’s basically corn syrup, and red dye, and you can imagine what that does to your body after ten hours of working. It was most fun when me and [Milo Ventimigilia] got to do it together, and got to get sticky together.

Then you have directors like Greg Beeman who like to go overboard with the blood. I just remember seeing him with that blood bottle in his hand and looking at me like he was going to attack.”

And, don’t worry, lovers of gore: Claire will be taking advantage of her ability even more in season two.

“The longer she has it and the farther it goes, the less she is conscious of it, the less she notices that she can’t do certain things. Trust me, you will see plenty of blood. Plenty of snaps, pops, and crackles.”

Heroes: Worldwide Appeal

The following is taken from The Sioux City Journal, chronicling the mass appeal of Heroes

One year ago, Masi Oka was just hoping a little thing called Heroes would last six weeks. Now, the NBC drama is a worldwide phenomenon and Oka is an Emmy nominee.

“It’s a dream come true,” Oka says as he leads a tour around the series’ sets. “Every day, I noticed something changing. A little kid would come up to me and ask for an autograph. A father would stop and say, ‘Thank you for uniting my family.’ People would be so nice… and all because the series touched them.”

Sendhil Ramamurthy Pic Considered a key bridge between network television and on-line broadcasting, Heroes has managed to create buzz in countries where it hasn’t even aired.

Sendhil Ramamurthy (pictured) was at the French Open this spring and couldn’t move without a crowd gathering. Tennis officials had to assign him an escort just to keep fans at bay.

“That’s the power of the Internet,” he says. “France hasn’t gotten the show yet but people there are fully aware of it.”

Tabloid reporters are savvy, too. Hayden Panettiere can’t leave her home without photographers chronicling every move.

“You’re like shark bait,” she says. “Being a young female in Hollywood is no easy task.”

Still, Panettiere is grounded. She has a curfew, household chores and “great parents” to make sure success doesn’t change her.

“In the first season, we had no idea it had become a phenomenon,” Ramamurthy says. “We were locked away in L.A. It didn’t hit until we actually finished and were able to travel.”

Missy Peregrym Wants to be Wonder Woman

Missy Peregrym Pic First, Milo Ventimiglia admitted that his dream role would be to portray Robin on the big screen.

Now, a former castmate is sharing her hopes of landing a well-known comic book part.

Missy Peregrym, the 25-year-old actor who portrayed illusionist Candice Wilmer on the first season of Heroes, revealed that she would love to play Wonder Woman on in any future film.

“Actually, I’ve been pushing for that for so long because I know the guys who are trying to develop it and it’s been forever that they’ve been trying to get this script going,” she said. “We’ll see what happens, but of course, that would be huge to play that.”

A Wonder Woman movie was in development under writer-director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) for several years. Though Whedon has since bowed out, producer Joel Silver claims that the flick is still a possibility.
