Thanks to our friend at TV Guide, Michael Ausiello, we can confirm the return of a past character:

Sources have confirmed that Jessalyn Gilsig is reprising her role as Claire's white-trash mom for five episodes next season. We enjoyed her stint as Tami's sister last year on Friday Night Lights.

Think this means a reunion between Claire's mother and father (Nathan) is in the works?

Thank you to readers that submitted an entry to this week's Heroes Caption Contest, the only online game of its kind.

We awarded the winning prize to "Jake," who went to the police-officer-as-stripper route in his caption response. Always good for a laugh.

Sylar slices open the head of the person you may consider the show's biggest star! That happens within the first two episodes and we also learn exactly what he does once Sy-baby pops the lid on our heroic pals, so let's just say that there is plenty to look forward to early on in season three.

Let's get one thing straight, before we hear what Brea Grant has to say about her new character on Heroes: she'll be named Daphne, as opposed to previous reports that linked her to a character named Joy.

With that out of the way, here's what else Grant told The Associated Press about her role in the upcoming season:

"I'm stealing a secret that's been kept in Hiro's family for a long time that he's just now found... He stops time right as I grab it, but in that second it took him to grab it, I almost make it out of the office."

Masi Oka chimed in about the character he'll be facing off against:

"Her character is supposed to be Hiro's Joker. Batman has The Joker. Hiro has Daphne. This is the season where Hiro finally finds his arch nemesis, and it happens to be this Speedster. I kind of equate it more to Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, except Daphne says more than ‘meep-meep.'"

As previously reported, Brea Grant is coming aboard the cast of Heroes in the villainous role of Joy.

Now, we've received word that Bruce Boxleitner has snagged a recurring role that was originally going to be modeled after John McCain. We're guessing this is the character that - originally, at least - was to be known as Senator Robert Malden.

Bruce Boxleitner has appeared in the shows Cold Case and Crossing Jordan.

While new Heroes may be coming aboard the show next season, we're always curious about the state of past characters.

Thanks to a recent Jack Coleman interview with TV Guide, we now have an idea of where various Heroes will begin the new season. To wit:

• On HRG: "I'm currently incarcerated and at the bottom of Level Five in the company facility. I think there may be an escape in the offing, but at a cost."

• On Hiro: "He's firmly planted in Yakamoto Industries now. I think Hiro's more the guy who starts out wealthy and comfortable and is very unhappy taking over his father's business and needs the quest. That's his destiny."

• On Claire: "She's trying to use what she has for a greater good rather than just blend in and be anonymous"

• On Mohinder: "He's not as mild-mannered as he once was."

As previously reported, a new character named Joy will join Heroes next season. She'll be known as "The Speedster," likely due to how fast this new villain will run.

Well, that's nice and all - but the actress that plays her wasn't fast enough to avoid detection by our staff!

Brea Grant - who portrayed Landry's girlfriend for a couple of episodes of Friday Night Lights last year - is coming on board to play Joy. Here's a photo of the young actress:

As we all pine for Heroes to return, we can at least find comfort in the weekly Heroes Caption Contest.
