Hiro, Ando

I forgot my chopsticks at home... I wonder if I can kill the fly with Hiro's belt.

Heroes Preview: Angels and Monsters

Coming up on the next all-new Heroes episode...

  • Nathan takes Tracy home to meet mom;
  • Claire tries to take down her first villain, and is confronted by her father;
  • Arthur Petrelli makes an appearance.

Here's a video preview for "Angels and Monsters."

Warning: Teenage Angst Incarnate on the Way!

Here's a quick Heroes spoiler, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly's astute television critic, Michael Ausiello:

Casting is underway for a new character named David. He's described as "teenage angst incarnate" and he'll be featured in at least three episodes of the "Fugitives" arc, which is the title given to chapter four of Heroes.

Flint in Action

Flint didn't have much success as a villain on Heroes. How will the new character of David fare?

Heroes Spoilers: Claire vs. HRG!

Yesterday, we shared with readers a look at what's in store for Ando and Hiro as season three progresses.

Now, let's take a look at the upcoming relationship between a certain former cheerleader and her father.

According to E! Online's Kristin, Claire and HRG are headed for a showdown in the very near future... like next week!

Very Mean Claire

Will evil Claire soon confront her occasionally evil father?

Here's what Jack Coleman told the TV columnist about upcoming story lines:

"Around episode five, Claire and Noah collide in a most unexpected and kind of horrific way - I don't mean horrific...I just mean as a father, let's just say she just turns up in a place where I'd least like her to turn up when I'm doing work that I don't want her to know about."

Hmmm, any theories on what that could mean, readers?

Heroes Commentary: Give the Fans a Present!

Last week, we suggested that Heroes take a page from Lost; i.e. focus more on individual character development each episode and really give fans a chance to watch these characters in action, as opposed to dizzying our heads with non-stop twists and turns.

This week, we have an even simpler recommendation:

Heroes needs to act more like... every other show on TV!

Why can't the writers carve out a season that simply involves these individuals fighting a problem in the present day? We hoped that would be this chapter's set-up, as its dubbed "Villains" and it opened with a handful of bad guys being released from Level 5. Perfect. Let's go after them!

Instead, only one of those villains (Knox) remains on the loose. But more importantly, the focus of the season has shifted to stopping a dangerous future from occurring... again. Didn't we see this already in season one?

Future Sylar

The trouble with constantly jumping into the future, and the back again in order to change it, is two-fold:

  1. It's pretty darn confusing;
  2. It gives the writers unlimited freedom to make stuff up.

The first point speaks for itself. So let's focus on the second.

What's Next for Hiro and Ando?

Now that Hiro and Ando have dug up their long-time nemesis, Adam Monroe, what do future Heroes episodes have in store for this duo?

Kristin from E! Online went to the ideal sources for such a question: Masi Oka and James Kyson Lee. Here are highlights of what they had to say:

Is Ando really a villain? "If I zapped him, it's probably for a good reason. But we don't know if he's turned bad, or if I've turned bad, or if he's betrayed me," Lee said of the season premiere scene that saw Ando zapping Hiro to death.

Could Hiro become a villain? We never thought it would be possible, but Masi Oka says Hiro Nakamura could one day become evil. "I don't know if it will happen, I don't know if it has happened, but I do think it needs to go there eventually."

How will Ando acquire his abilities? "We learn this season that in order for people to obtain abilities, there has to be a combination of factors - both physical and environmental elements," Lee said. "We think the eclipse might have to do with it. Maybe the formula we are trying to find is closely linked to it, and of course Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is trying to do experiments to find out, but he's not finding the answers either."

Jack Coleman Speaks on New Season on Heroes

The worst part of this week's Heroes episode, by far, was the lack of Jack Coleman on screen. We need our weekly HRG fix!

Fortunately, this is unlikely to be a regular occurrence. And at least our friends at BuddyTV sat down with the Heroes star recently. Here are excerpts from that interview:

What was it like coming back after the strike and going into this new partnership with Sylar?
We were gone for so long it just seemed like forever, so when we came back it took a couple days to get the wheels working and the joints oiled. It was laid on me pretty early that HRG was going to be in partnership with somebody very different, and at first I thought it was going to be Claire.

When it turned out to be Sylar I thought that was very cool. I was a little concerned about the transition from mortal enemies to cooperating on a mission together. That worried me a little bit to start out that way, but I think the fact that they have the two of us kind of scheming against each other even as we work together, I think that works well.

Are we going to see more of that back story with HRG's relationship to these villains?
You see a little of it. There's not all that much. What you will see more of is in a great episode, it's episode eight, and it's a flashback episode that's kind of a prequel to the pilot. It sort of dovetails into the pilot, and you see how, for instance, HRG and Elle are complicit in sort of the creation of Sylar.

It's a really good origins episode of how Sylar got to be the way he is, and the relationship between HRG and Elle. It was hinted at last year when Suresh says to me, "You know her?" and it's like, "Oh yeah." It's never really explained in what form, how it is that I knew her, so you really see more of that. In that episode you will also see Knox and see where he came from, so you do see the villains there. But there's not a tremendous amount of HRG and the villains back story.

Heroes Round Table: I Am Become Death

Welcome to our 14th Heroes Round Table.

While fans of the show gather in the Who do you think is the mother of Sylar's son?
A. Hiro: Tracy. How? Who knows. But the writers seem to have no problem just making up a future they know they'll never need to explain in detail, so why not say Sylar got with Tracy during a break from her relationship with Nathan?

Milover
: He's named Noah. So, as crazy as this sounds, maybe Sylar and Mrs. Bennet hooked up and named the child after her ex-husband.

Timex: Well, since they've provided zero insight into this and the only woman he's every been romantically linked with is Maya, I'm guessing it's a completely new character we've never been introduced to. Maybe we'll meet her next episode, two years into the future

RT

With his new power, will Peter fall into the same dangerous/evil trap as Sylar has?
Timex: Apparently, he already has, cutting open his own brother's skull.  Let's hope Peter can have a baby with someone unknown female character in the future so he, too, can fight the power.

A. Hiro: Yes. It didn't take long for Peter to re-assemble that watch, did it? It's almost as though he had the ability inside of him all along.

Milover: Sadly, it seems like this has already happened. I hope Peter soon sees the error of his ways.

Heroes Episode Guide, Photos, Quotes & More from "I Am Become Death"

There's a problem when Heroes leaps into the future: the show can make anything up because, hey, that future is never gonna actually take place anyway!

Cases in point: Daphne is now married to Matt?!? And working with an evil Claire?!? If this is anything like the Season One episode, Five Years Gone, we'll never actually learn how these developments take place; we're just expected to accept them as fact so the show, in its present day form, can save us from this supposedly fatal future.

Do you see the trouble with this logic? The lazy writing involved?

We try to watch with an open mind, and we maybe the show will take us on a path this season that reasonably leads to a potential future such as the one depicted in "I Am Become Death," but we're not hopeful. Read the full episode recap now.
