Heroes Commentary: Remember the Concept of Evolution?

Over the past couple weeks, we've written commentaries on the state of Heroes that have received some criticism from readers. Many wonder why we insult a show we supposedly love.

In response, we say: we insult the show because we love it!

For over a year now, Heroes has failed to live up to the expectations it set for itself in its first season. We're yearning for the series to reach its potential again. So consider these critiques tough love, ok? After all, the greatness of America lies in our freedom - nay, our responsibility! - to openly question the state of affairs.

With that in mind, this week's commentary focuses on a main character: Hiro.

Hiro and Adam

Remember when Mohinder started the first season by rattling on about evolution? It was the basis for he and his father's research, as our Heroes were meant to symbolize mankind's constantly evolving state. "Evolution is an imperfect and often violent process. A battle between what exists and what is yet to be born..." Mohinder said back then.

When it comes to Hiro, therefore, we can't help but wonder what happened to the evolution of his mind.

Hayden Panettiere Pretends to Endorse John McCain

We take back every criticism we ever had about the character of Claire.

No way we'll ever insult Hayden Panettiere again, not after her hilarious appearance in the following fake public service announcement.

In the video, the Heroes star pleads with viewers to vote for John McCain... and smoke cigarettes... and not wear seat belts. Watch and enjoy:

Heroes Round Table: Angels and Monsters

Welcome to our 15th Heroes Round Table.

While fans of the show gather in the forums to discuss every character and story line, our staff comes together every week to analyze the latest developments from the latest episode.

Topics in this edition include: Maya's death; Ando's death; and Claire vs. HRD. Let's get to the Q&A...

Were you sad to see Maya killed?
A. Hiro: Is this a trick question? I was just sad we didn't see her experience more pain.

Milover: No. Because now she can go join her brother Alejandro in Annoying Character Heaven.

Timex: Did you mean to say happy?  If so, then yes.  We've been calling for useless characters to be killed off each week on the Round Table.  I'm pretty sure Maya was on the top of everyone's list.

Is Ando really dead?
Timex: No!  There's no way one half of my favorite duo on Heroes could be dead.  Luckily, the man who kills him has the ability to control space and time.  Ando shall rise and entertain me again.

A. Hiro: Of course not. Hiro can go back in time, remember?!? (Which does force us to ask: Why didn't he just go back in time and NOT open his father's safe with the formula?)

Milover: I'm actually gonna say yes. The show needs more surprises and this would definitely shock viewers.

Coming Up on Heroes: Double Deaths!

Just as we're catching our breath from last night's episode, a slew of Heroes spoilers have come across our desk.

According to Kristin from E! Online, a pair of characters will soon be meeting their demise. For good. For real. Here's a look at what this television columnist has to say:

A Hero Is Going to Die! Kristin hints that viewers won't be said to see this individual go. She (yes, she) has been grating on viewers' nerves since the start of season three. (Mostly because many want her off of their hot specimen of a former human.) Is that too obvious? Oops!

Our guess: Sounds like Maya, right? But she was killed off last night and this review was supposedly written after the episode aired. We're confused.

Untrusting Partners

A Villain Is Going to Die! And, sadly, the poor fella just got out of a coffin. Indeed, a villain that everyone loves is going down next week, and once he's gone, he's not coming back. Sadness.

Our guess: Adam Monroe, obviously.

Mohinder Goes From Bad to Worse: No one knows what he plans to do with those cocoons but he wants to add two more. Nathan and Tracy, we presume?

Claire Learns Why She's Special: Remember when Sylar cut off the top of her head and told her she was "different?" Next week, Claire will discover what that means - and you won't be surprised to learn that the reason has everything to do with Grandma Angela, Grandpa Arthur and the entire previous corrupt generation of Heroes. (Think back to when Kaito Nakamura handed off Baby Claire to HRG, remember?)
