  1. It's Coming

HeroLover, I agree with you 100 per cent. I suggested this in the forum after the Villains episode, and after seeing what Sylar can actually do in this episode, I believe it all the more so. Arthur doesn't actually steal the power, he just makes his vctim think he stole it. His telepathy is obviously very strong and advanced, and it shouldn't be a problem for him to do this.

For the past month or so, I think this season has been awesome, but it's feeling a little disconnected from the early episodes of this season. I'm wondering if the creative team decided to switch gears in the middle and take the show in a direction they hadn't planned. At the moment, with Sylar now revealed to be an empath like Peter, I wonder why it was necessary for Peter to go into the future to learn about "the Hunger," especially when just a couple of weeks later Peter was left powerless. That storyline is just kind of hanging out there now, like Caitlin stranded in a future that will never happen and Micah who knows where. What need did Angela have to dig up Adam when it is clearly Arthur who needed him? To be honest I have no problem with these remaining unanswered as I love the direction the show has been going in.

About It's Coming, did we see Angela exhibit a secondary power, one many people were predicting she had in season 1: the power of persuasion? Why else would Arthur unlock her from the chair? He put her there for a reason. To set her free merely at her suggestion seems a little too easy. But in S1 we saw Angela talking close to Heidi, and convinced her of a course of action (I can't recall the plot details off the top of my head) which led many to believe she had the power of persuasion. It could very well be, especially given all the ties recent epidoes have been making to S1.

With all that said, I do have a problem with the convenience of the eclipses. I conccur with an earlier post: I don't see the eclipse as the catalyst for powers as many were showing powers before the eclipse of season 1. It really only seemed to be Peter and Hiro who discovered their powers after that eclipse — But Isaac was painting before it, Nathan flew, Claire was healing, Chandra Suresh was searching for people he had identified with the genetic variation.

But hey, it's still a great show.

  2. It's Coming

After a slow start, this season is getting excellent. I love where the story arc is going and am expecting an eepic battle that will leave Peter, Nathan, Matt, Daphne et. al. going into hiding against the new regime led by Arthur.

However, I can see Sylar (or would that be Gabriel now?) and Elle switching sides at some point.

So Arthur and Sylar can look into people's minds and assume their identity, but this still doesn;t exlpain how Arthur "takes" them, as clearly Sylar does not. Peter looks to be the next step in "evolution" as he doesn;t have to look into a person to adopt their powers.

What will be interesting is what happens after they all lose their powers with this coming eclipse. I'm guessing Arthur steps up attempts to abduct Claire so he can inject all of his allies with the serum Mohinder is working on. But something will have to subsequently give to get people their abilities back.

I'm also very curious about where Hiro and Ando are going to fit into all of this. I thought the bowling alley scene was hilarious -- anybody with an ounce of childhood left in them would have to consider doing the same kind of thing if ou could stop time. But they are on the outside of the two teams that are coming together. Same with Bennet. How does one without powers, a regular agent, fit into this? It's driving me crazy that we have to wait a week for the next episode.

  3. Villains

That is what I was theorizing, and it was just a theory. Although while we did see some sort of "transfer" between Arthur and Peter, there wasn't a similar incident with Adam. I agree that the writers aren;t trying to confuse the situation, but they do have a tendency to leave certain threads hanging as the story develops. (See Caitlyn left in the future, or Monica and Micah, or West ...). Sometimes these stories start to evolve in directions the writers didn't foresee when they started out and they have to quickly change course. In the process, somethings may end up getting left unresolved. At the risk of "over-thinking" LOL - there is also the possibility that the transfer we see is created by Arthur to give credence to his illusion that he has taken the victim's powers. But again, this is just a theory -- I've been wrong many times about where this show is headed, and I will be wrong again. That doesn;t take the fun out of guessing, though.

  4. Villains

Responding to an earlier posting here, Sylar is predispositioned to use powers. We learned that in S1 when Mohinder's father tracked down Gabriel Gray because he had the genetic marker common in those who are the next step in human evolution. Gabriel showed no abilities because he had yet to to "read" somebody's brain. But his DNA enabled to acquire the knowledge of powers and how to use them.

As for Arthur "stealing" powers, maybe it isn't that he is stealing the powers, but is using his mental abilities to "block" a person from using them. (And if that is the case, it may be likely that Matt can help Peter restore his powers.) We now know Arthur has a significant power in altering one's memory, as he did with Angela before Linderman healed her. He could theoretically be doing the same thing to Peter. Mind you, this doesn't explain why Adam crumpled into dust when Arthur took his regenerative powers so I'm probably way off on this one. UNLESS, in the process of "blocking" the regenerative abilities of Adam, his body became unaware of what it had to do to maintain its youthful state and reverted to its real age. I guess we'll have to wait and see if they explain this one. If we knew all the answers ahead of time, there would be no reason to watch the show.

I still think Arthur learned how to acquire powers from the Sylar videos, however. I don't believe Adam knew what Arthur was going to do when he was brought to him; otherwise why would Adam approach the bed on his own accord? I think the shock and fear Adam experienced was from seeing someone he believed to be dead, someone quite powerful who would have had a hand in locking Adam away for 30 yuears.

  5. Villains

For what it's worth, I'm thinking Arthur hasn't stolen Hiro's power, but is "implanting" him to work for Pinehearst. Arthur may have all of these powers, but he is also a company executive, and anybody who works for a company executive knows they stereotypically like to delegate the work to their underlings. Now taking Peter's power has its advantages because of everything Peter could do -- it has enabled Arthur to ensure he remains more powerful than those who work for him. As has been pointed out, he can already do what Hiro can do, so he doesn't need the power. What Arthur does need is somebody else who can time travel and teleport so he doesn't have to. With Hiro in the ranks of Pinehearst, Arthur can stay close to home and have Hiro and the others he has recruited do all the dirty work for him

To Robert, here's my theory on why Arthur can suddenly steal powers, and this week's episode (which I loved, BTW) set it up. We now know Primatech has a video file on Sylar and how he acquires people's powers. I'm guessing in the next couple of weeks we will learn that Arthur sent somebody (more than likely Daphne) to steal this file. But where Sylar had to crack open the skull and look into the brain, Arthur can use his telepathy to "see" into the brain without the violent death associated with Sylar's power transfers.

I loved how this epidoe brought in a bunch of stuff from S1, and I loved seeing Eric Roberts in the show again, even if it is a one-off. I also chuckled at the reference to Claude (Flint talked about getting nabbed by an invisible guy), although it would have been great to see him back. He is still my avourite secondary character to ever appear in the series.

I still wonder, however, about Angela's role in all of this. It was her, remember, who directed Hiro and Ando to dig up Adam Monroe. This could be a plot point the writers may now regret and will conveniently "forget", but I can't help but feel this will come into play later on. After all, if Adam was never dug up, Arthur never would have regained his mobility, and Arthur's forces seemed to know exactly where to find him. How could they do that without Molly, unless somebody tipped them off about it?

I like where this show is going, and I look forward to a big showdown at mid-season, kind of like a Super Friends vs. Legion of Doom, but I think it will be the LOD that wins and the Super Friends will have to flee, becoming the fugitives of chapter IV's title.

  6. Eris Quod Sum

Claire (or at least her blood) can heal other people, but I can't remember if she was let in on that little secret. I seem to recall HRG telling her it was her blood that saved his life after Mohinder shot him. But I could be remembering incorrectly. I'm also trying to recall if it was her blood that restored Sylar's powers, because if so that is Peter's path back to his abilities.

I gotta say I love Sylar's new role. Here's hoping he used his ablities to their max to see what Papa Petrelli is really up to, and playing the role of the double agent. I love the thought of him and Peter as a team, and I love that Parkman is going to try to recruit others to his cause. I also like the Daphne character, but I'm getting a difficult read on her. I'm not quite sure if she is playing Parkman or Pinehurst. But I guess that is that kind of stuff that keeps me coming back week after week.

After a slow start to this season, I think Heroes is on its way back. It's been three solid episodes in a row. Can't wait for another two weeks!

  7. need some clarification

I think there is an element of having to know what you've got to be able to use it. Think of all the powers Peter had, but didn't know he had them and therefore didn't use them, when he was being "trained" by Claude in S1. Telekinesis is probably the best example.Claude used a broomstick to lay a beating on Peter before he instinctively stopped the broomstick with his mind. Peter didn't know he could do that when he did; it was more reflex. Peter could have had tea with Sylar at the end of S1, but not knowing that Sylar could melt things with his bare hands, has super-hearing, is nuclear, is telekenetic, super strong and fast, can turn things to ice, etc., Peter wouldn't think to try those things.

What I don't really get about Peter having to go into the future to learn from Sylar is why? What is so different about the way Sylar acquires powers? Peter was doing just fine without the hunger, unless he needs the hunger to throw a little aggression into the mix.

  8. Dying Of The Light

Does anybody recall whose blood was in the syringe Sylar stole from Mohinder to get his power back? Was it Claire's? And now that Sylar has Claire's ability, would his blood not be able to"heal" Peter and return his powers to him? Sylar knows what he did to get his powers back, and if he is intent on stopping Pinehearrst, I can see him trying the same "cure" on Peter. After he kicks his ass, of course (a little payback between brothers).

Further to this, I'll be a little ticked at teh writers if they give Papa Petrelli the "hunger." Peter didn't absorb the hunger. He had to"learn" the hunger. It'll be pretty cheap if Papa Petrelli can take a short cut with this one.

I am impressed with how they were able to turn Mama Petrelli into a quasi-sympathetic figure. I guess it takes a badder ass to make a bad ass look like not so much of a bad ass.

  9. Dying Of The Light

That would absolutely explain how Peter could be killed by a gunshot wound. Good theory. However, I don't think Papa Petrelli got "the hunger" from Peter. Peter had been around Sylar several times and never absorbed "the hunger." He needed Sylar, oops, I mean Gabriel, to show him how to get it.

  10. Dying Of The Light

I think to understand how the power works, Peter has to do what Sylar does, and that's remove the skull cap and examine the brain. He obviously never got the chance to do that with his father.

Peter could very well have absorbed his father's power, but would it have even been necessary? Peter's empath abilities are (were?) far superior to his father's who clearly (before he took Peter's powers) needed to physically touch another to take their ability. Peter just needed to be near comeone to take what they can do, and Peter does it without robbing the other of their ability, unlike both his father and Sylar. As Peter when unaware that his parents had "abilities" when Arthur supposedly died, it would be unfair for us to assume Peter knew what, if anything, his father could do when he was shocked to see that he was still alive. What bugged me most about this scene was why Peter made himself visible upon entering the room. He should have walked in and kicked ass while invisible and made Claude proud (now that is a character I would love to see return to the show!)
