ok theres one major thing I don't understand about this episode. In the beginning of the episode future Hiro and Hiro from the past collide. At that time future Hiro explains to Hiro from the past that he attempted to kill Sylar by stabbing him however, Sylar didn't die because he regenerated. He regenerated because he KILLED THE CHEERLEADER and took her powers. However later in that  "future" episode we find out that the Cheerleader is still alive; however,  Sylar disguised as Nathan kills her at the end of the episode.  This is a conflict b/c when future Hiro tries to kill Sylar, apperently the Cheerleader should have been still alive and with the Cheerleader alive Sylar couldn't have regenerated when future Hiro stabbed him meaning that Sylar should be dead.

    Anybody care to explain??????????

Hello, I'm in England where this episode just went out. I'm loving the series so far, but if I can't get a decent answer to this question this could be jeopardized. I mean it's a major plot element, not some minor inconsistency. And having Claire in  the future episode was kind of unnecessary anyway! How could they have overlooked this? Or is it explained away in later episodes?

If I can say this without getting myself confused.....In "Five Years Gone By", Future Hiro was happy to find out that the cheerleader was still alive from Present Hiro.  In other words, his earlier intervention to Peter Petrelli ("save the cheerleader, save the world") had worked.  However, Sylar was still alive. Therefore, he concluded that saving the cheerleader had not been enough.  Present Hiro must also kill Sylar and he sent him back with that advice before he died.  In other words, Present Hiro's confrontation of Sylar only took place in his timeline, not in Future Hiro's timeline.  Hence, the reason why Sylar was still alive, albeit without regenrative abilities.

UB313...Alot of people including myself agree with you on that plot.  Showing Claire in the future was a horrible thing to do and made a simple story confusing.....bad move...now all i think is that its a completely different timeline.

well may be Sylar didnt get Claire. Maybe he got Adam or Linderman instead of DL getting him. You never know. But i agree if he did get her, it was stupid to show her in it. Another thing, can anyone tell me how Sylar knew where the other heroes who were supposedly hidden were??? Heroes were arseholes for not showing that fight between Peter and Sylar. That looked awesome!!!!! who do you think won???

Same as UB313, just seen it in England and also got a problem with this episode.

Why did present Hiro even consider that he and Ando should go and see Issac? Surely present Hiro would know that Issac would already be dead at this point as he'd already travelled into the future once before and seen Issac with his head opened up by Sylar. Just shortly after this New York/Peter Petrelli expoldes and Hiro quickly travelles back in time to get out of the way of the blast.

Quote from the episode guide - Episode 2 "Don't look back"

"Hiro goes to meet Issac Mendez and finds Issac's body dead on the floor with his forehead cut open and his brain taken out. The police infiltrate Isaac's apartment and find Hiro with a gun in his hand, thinking that he killed Mr. Mendez."

"Finally at the end of the episode, we see Hiro as he talks with police officers about what happened, they then call his friend in Japan, he then says that he hasn't seen Hiro in almost five weeks! Hiro then looks out the window and sees a massive "Apocalypse" type explosion, he then goes back in time where he is back in the train."

    You all got it wrong....

I can explain the timetraveling problem here in this episode. But, to make it easier lets call future Hiro "Hiro A" and past Hiro "Hiro B".

Hero A stabed Sylar but sylar regenerated because he stole Clairs power. 5 years later Hiro A figures out how to prevent this... he teleports back in time and tells Peter to save the cheerleader. When Hiro A goes back 5 years into the future, he created a new future where he meets Hiro B and Clair is alive. You see, when Hiro B (who talked to Peter about Hiro A) teleported 5 years into the future, he never stabbed Sylar.... and Sylar stopped Nathan from flying Peter into the air (or Nathan never did that since Hiro B never told him about the future in the next episode)... Hiro B teleported to the same time and place that Hiro A did after Hiro A spoke to Peter. Finally, Hiro A dies and Hiro B goes 5 years back... stabs Sylar and so on....

And to prove what i am saying..... in this episode Mohinder picked up the comic which showed Hiro stabbing Sylar but he says that Sylar was never stabbed..... WHOOOO!!!!!

    Your truely,

    Jazzychaz

P.S. the only thing that is messed up with this episode "Five Years Gone" is that Peter has the scar on his face that Hiro A mentions even though in this future he should have Claires power =(
