Alright, I just saw this episode and I was extremely intrigued.
The 'boogeyman' idea is the coolest thing to happen to the story in a long time. It's far and away the best evil power out of anything we've seen, including any of those paltry little tricks that Sylar has stolen. Now I'm not saying that Sylar doesn't do anything impressive. We've already seen that every time he 'strikes', his victim is dead.
I saw the episode though with the boogeyman though tonight and for some reason it reminded me of the Disney version of Aladdin, specifically to one line, and obviously the bad guy (Jafar) says it- "...a fate worse than death...". I think it's when he's talking about the princess having to marry him, so yeah... This is a very common line among baddies throughout action, horror, sci-fi, etc. movies, but no one can actually toture you beyond what you are willing to let them do. Unfortunately, when you actually give in to their torture, they win- and it starts to hurt.
But either way, back to Heroes. Let's say that you have a choice between Sylar and the boogeyman- if Sylar gets ahold of you, you're dead. No pain (after death), no torture (again, after death)... that's just the end. What if you were tortured forever by yourself. That's what the boogeyman does. He shows you your nightmares as they really are. They are the mental and meta-physical embodiment of your worst fears. Any character that has the ability to inflict your worst fear back on you INSTANTLY has the upper hand. Picture this for emphasis- Sylar squares off against the Boogeyman. I'd give it about 10 seconds before the boogeyman unleashes his power and Sylar curls up in the corner like a frightened child. Even if he wasn't directly terrified of it, he'd still be in that 'dream-state' that Nathan was in, and would be an easy target for a bullet, or a bolt of lightning, or hell- even a broken beer bottle.
To add corroboration from the previous episodes. Nakamura died from someone being 'influenced' by their nightmares to push what they thought was their nightmare (Nakamura) off a building... sketchy, but stay with me. Mama Petrelli tried to fight back against her nightmare but ended up fighting herself. That's why the doctors say her cuts were self-inflicted.
If this were the justice league and I was playing 'pretend' with all my little friends as a kid- I would definitely call nightmare man's power. I'd just point around the room and say, "You- you're in nightmare land. You- you're in there too. You too. And you..." and so on. I'd always win.
Just my two cents.

I really liked this episode except for 'veronica mars' girl. I just don't really think she is that great of an actor, but maybe we just haven't seen enough of her yet.
I'm wondering a lot about all the people in the picture, because a lot of people are have theories that everyone has a power of some sort. I don't think thats true. Just look at the show its self. Does every single character have a power? Mohinder=No, Mr.Benett=No, Ando=No, Zack=No, and they were all pretty close to people who did have powers. So maybe they didn't all have powers and the ones who did started abusing their power, Linderman, Matt's Dad, Bob, and they all became separated because of their separate views.
On another note, i miss Sylar!

Yeah, Anon... that reminds me of when i ate too many magic mushrooms... I lay in the middle of a forest in the fetal position sucking my thumb, saying 'mamma'...
Then I realized there where faces coming out of the mountain looking at me wondering why I was such a puss.

Ugh... I'm sorry you had such a bad trip dude...
Anon, I like what you said. Yeah, Sylar is one bad dude, but the Nightmare man feed's you your fears, which to me is a lot more scary... I missed the first part of this episode from a long ass day at work, but I will watch it from begining to end as soon as I can... I hope it moves a little quicker in spots, it does seem like parts of it are draggin out a bit too much...
Wahoo..

I like your thoughts as well anon. I am too tired from long day at work too, so I will share more tomorrow. but just wanted to point out to Polaris that Mohinder really does have a power - remote viewing. He just hasn't realized it. He thinks he's just dreaming. He needs to develop it and it can become quite a powerful tool. Peter absorbed it and it helped him get answers from Charles Devauex. Isaac has a form of it, which, when you add his awesome art ability, you have a precognitive painter.
The theory of Nathan being the killer of the elders picked up some steam with this episode.....any one notice how 'bad' he wanted to go with parkman to see this boogeyman? He seemed to have alterior motives. Like he just wanted Matt to lead him to him. He said "I can take care of myself" - which seems he's letting on (to us) that he has more tricks up his sleeve. He also kept doing to Matt what Mama Petrelli would always do to him - talk very assertively, touch the shoulder - affirm and remind of the directive. Very persuasive. He may have just inhereted this from mommy........just a thought.
