The everlasting cockroach

There has already been much discussion about the significance of the cockroach sightings on certain episodes, but it recently became clear to me what it means.

    What does it mean?

    Where does it come from?

(okay......sorry, I just had to say those two quotes outloud in the best Noah Bennett / Mohinder Suresh voice I could summon)

There might have been more than (4) times we see the cockroach cameo dating back into season 1, but only (4) seem to jump out at me.

The first was in Sylars cell in the basement of Primatech. They show it when he's on the floor, knocking on deaths door from all the drugs and testing.

We see it next just down the hall in another (yet same on set) cell, this time holding Matt Parkman. When the scene opens, Matt is lying there, seemingly dead with our buddy the cockroach in the foreground next to some broccoli. Matt should eat his veggies.

Then we see a cockroach (I read a theory that it was always the same cockroach and that said cockroach is the evil grand wizard of all the heroes in bug form......which is fucking ridiculous, but watch it turn out to be true and I'll look like a moron investing so much thought into a fucking insect) near the manhole (in the street, noy Sylars) in Kirby plaza. It seems as though Hiro took care of Sylar and he's toast........

Sidenote: pretty cool how Hiro has dispatched of, or has at least taken a stab at terminating the evil arch rival in both seasons so far. Hiro is quickly becoming my favorite. Maybe because he has been vulnerable, yet stayed true to his convictions and did what he felt was right - which was really based on his emotions. Peter was my favorite character last year for this same reason. This season, Peter was a little more misguided because his head was up his ass looking for Caitlin and was coming thru the other side a dick to Hiro.

Back to the original idea....so the next time we see the infamous cockroach is in Mexico after Sylar kills the kid with a rock that was attmepting to call the federalis on Maya and Alejandro.

So, my big idea is that the cockroach only appears when a person with special abilities is presumed dead, but will not be dead for long.....wink, wink.  Sylar came back relatively healthy both times as did Matt Parkman. As for the kid in Mexico - I think it's a little foreshadowing.

Well I  initially thought that this kid was of some signifigance. Maya killed him in jail until her brother came in and undid it. So he gets a second chance. But weirder is the fact that he's there in the first place with Claire Bennets stolen Nissan Rogue. I think that he was working for the company (they found out where Claire and HRG were living in Costa Verde just after the car got stolen) sent down to Mexico to either keep tabs on Maya and Alejandro or locate Sylar who escaped.....or both. I know company protocol is to partner up, but what if this was the exception? I just don't think this was a coincidence or that he was a nobody. I think we'll see him again if my theory on the amazing cock (roach) is true

Oh, right... I dunno if I agree. It's something to do with Sylar if you ask me.

When did it happen with Parkman?

The episode where Parkman, Ted and Noah are all held captive @ Primatech, right before they escape and head to New York to take out the 'Walker tracking system'......HRG wakes him up by shouting in his head.

I used to think it had more to do with Sylar until I saw it near Matt and realized that it may have just been near Sylar all those times because he was the one doing most of the close calls with death. (I guess Peter and Claire both had a death sequence - but maybe it foreshadows those who are close to death and are prone to turning to the darkside)?? Matt has been using his power in a more selfish way as of late and I don't think that kid in mexico was beaver cleaver

Ok Anu Naki, I completely agreed with you on Adam, but this is where it's my turn to shine. The cockroach symbolizes survival, lifes struggle to continue. You came damn close to it though, but not quite. That kid in Mexico is dead, he will not come back. I once had a theory on that. Then I read the graphic novels. Trust me they clear a handful of things up. The reason you see it appear by Sylar most often is because everyone is trying to kill him, yet he still survives. My guess is that with Parkman though is that the Company was going to kill him anyway, so the cockroach was sort of like a precursor to his struggle to survive. As for the kid in Mexico, the reason he had Claire's care was because he was part of a cult and his last task was to steal a car and drive it to some foreign location. Again, read the grahphic novels.
