The Haitian's Powers

Their has been a lot of debate on the Haitian lately on his use of his powers.  We know that he has the power to make a person forget their memories and STOP a person's power when he is around.  How does it work though...does he need to concentrate on a person and then their power will go away.  Example..When the Haitian was focused on Matt in the Bar (season 1) he stopped his powers perfectly, and in the future episode present Hiro couldnt use his powers when he was captured.  We assume that when the Haitian is around that a hero cant use his powers, but oddly enough their have been instances when they do.  Their was the time when the Haitian and HRG were trying to abduct Nathan, and Nathan flew off (season 1).  Even in this past episode the Haitian was around with Elle and she could still shoot electricity.

So wat do you guys think?

I've heard that the haitian can only block certain powers, namely those that are directly influenced by mental faculties, and has a harder time with ones that are physical in nature.

Anu naki..im not so sure...because if you remember from the Future episode...they Showed Matt with a whole bunch of SWAT team guarding a door because Future Peter, and Future Hiro were breaking in adn Matt screamed No Were safe in here from those guys because the Haitian wont let them in..Haitian will block their powers...

So yeh i think he can stop their mental adn physical abilities ..its just about how and when he does it...i think he needs to concentrate example would be like if you put Hiro, Peter, Nathan, in a room with the Haitian, if the Haitian just focuses his power on Hiro Hiro wont use his power, but the other 2 might.  If he concentrates on all 3 then all three of them cant use their power.

I agree with the theory that the Haitian has to concentrate on an individual to sap their power, but I'm wondering if he can only do it to one person at a time. I can't recall the specifics of that scene from Five Years Gone, but I'll rewatch it (how did our TV-watching ancestors ever survive without shows on DVD?).

Does Peter have the Haitian's power...or was it blocked?

I think it takes a strong person to overtake the Haitian. Matt did break the power to hear the word "Sylar" when he was in the stakeout.

Of course the Haitian may not have been using his full power, unknowingly since he was unaware of Parkmans presence.

Is the Haitians sapping power passive?

Nightvision....since you are asking the question is it passive....if you look at my previous post that i guess the Haitian has to concentrate on the group or person for the ability to be disabled and I gave a few examples where people were able to use their power when he WAS around...

I remember an episode where Parkman was hiding in the Primatech facility but couldn't hear people's thoughts because the Haitian was around.  It appeared that the Haitian didn't even know Parkman was there.

Well in the last episode it was mentioned that he weakened the powers of others, so maybe its a partial passive ability, but he can intensify the power at will, if he has a target.

I've had a theory for the past couple weeks that the Haitian's powers don't stop at what we know so far. I think that when he takes peoples memories, he has them himself. So he not only takes their memories but he knows them and can learn from them.

This would explain things like how he learnt French so well, where he learnt how to fight, and why, on his dying bed, he thought he was sinning. Also, he might really have been mute when the company first found him, but as he took more people's memories, he learnt how to talk from their memories.
