The Empath- Peter Petrelli

It's been looked at as a weakness by many individuals, but empathy for Peter Petrelli is his biggest strength.

By feeling for others he's able to absorb a part of them. He probably does the same with normal people too, but when he comes across people with special abilities, he's able to take it in and make it his.

His ability may have no limits, making him, potentially, the most powerful hero.

Not a lot of fans realize that being an empath is the real reason why he will become the most powerful of all heroes. Glad you pointed that out monk. Not to get all religious because I am  far from it, but  Peter  is very Christ like. He is compassionate, forgiving and doesn't brag, show off or use his powers for evil (okay, he did go a little berserk on Isaac Mendez which resulted in Simone's death) so let's just say he is more christ-like than Sylar.....who is more devil-like.

I wonder if Tim Kring and the writers loosely based Peter and Sylar's opposing dynamic on that of Christ and Satan.....whic all goes back to an even more ancient fundamental idea of yin and yang. Law of duality. Peter is more emotion based, Sylar more analytical.

I see a lot of similarities between Peters character and Neo from the Matrix trilogy. And remember, Neo played on that whole story of Christ thing a little bit. Neo in the Matrix played off of the REAL story of superman (which Brian Singer stayed true to and recaptured in Superman Returns) Even Peter died and was resurrected. Ever notice how both superman and Peter died (sort of) with the shard of kryptonite / glass broke off inside of them. It's all a retelling of the story of the saviour god / hero.

Good topic monk, here's to hoping more fans become interested in this aspect of the show and it's charaacters......

I think you people are reading way too into the show! Just enjoy with out gettin your philosiphy books out? -k? I agree that this is how Peter gets his powers but why does anybody have to bring religion into it? There is enough of that sh*t in the world already.

Yes, there is enough of that in the world already, but religions are just trying to make sense of certain basic aspects of life too man. Monk brought up a good topic, I wanted to expand on it with a little intellectual probing of the parallels between these very similar stories, but I can see that it simply blew your brain and brought you to the point of mental constipation.

No one forced you to read these posts or participate in them. Some people like to dig a little deeper and think about things that aren't so obvious, which you obviously don't. Your screen name gives you away as a 22 year old male college student who loves getting smashed at frat parties and just watches heroes because you think they might show Claire Bennett in her bra and panties someday. Oh, and your bad grammar and random placement of punctuation also speaks volumes about your IQ level.....

Everyone needs to just relax. Let's get back to the topic.....PETER PETRELLI, the empath! His first and last name supposedly both mean "the rock" (in latin I think?) Makes sense since Petra means rock as well. Also a metaphor for Christ....uh oh - now anu nakis got me going down this dark path of religious / mythical comparison to the show. Maybe the man Tim Kring will jump on this forum and set us all straight. Pretty interesting though, I wonder what other symbolism hides in waiting. There is already a massive amount of subtleties buried in the show already.....

Brilliant... Finnaly people who see the deeper side of things. I think it's definetly important for people to dig down and see the parallels in life.

Yeah, it is a cool show and I do enjoy it, but the fact that its closer to reality than we think is what makes me enoy it the most.

Anu Nakis, what does that mean? I couldn't agree more with your take on the whole Peter Petrelli / Neo/ Superman/ Jesus comparison. I like that.

Yeah, Cadalyst, there are shit loads of symbolism. Yeah, religion is just humanities way of describing something they can't explain. All religions have paralells and have interesting info to offer. I am not religious, either. Though, it's important to find what's true to oneself.... Thanks for the feedback.

fN-Sweet... Don't be a cock-sucker!  If they wanna talk deep and you don't then make your own post. There is a need for both philisophical/ analytical and dumb superficial talk. Make your own and I'll add some dumb superficial shit to it wid ya...

Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to masturbate before bed...

yeah it all went to far of  from the topic..i do believe Peter is what we like to represent HUMANITY....Peter is the human side of what a heroe is..at least in season one...he tries to adjust to something extraordinary while making his life ordinary..i know confusing..but i believe he reflects the spiritual/emotional of what a human being is supposed to be and what it has to do with having an ability......

that was fantastic emntastic! You are on it! Yeah, it's like Peter is the human / emotional side and Sylar plays the role of the alien (or luciferian) / analytical side.

That's why in the episode '5 years gone' - Peter yielded fire in his palms, while Sylar had ice. The frigid, heartless and cognitive approach has long been associated with cold-blooded reptiles, aliens, satan.....while the warm, caring and empathic mindframe will always be associated with warm-blooded mammals, humans and the good lord above.

    say your prayers tonight......
