Not a lot of fans realize that being an empath is the real reason why he will become the most powerful of all heroes. Glad you pointed that out monk. Not to get all religious because I am far from it, but Peter is very Christ like. He is compassionate, forgiving and doesn't brag, show off or use his powers for evil (okay, he did go a little berserk on Isaac Mendez which resulted in Simone's death) so let's just say he is more christ-like than Sylar.....who is more devil-like.
I wonder if Tim Kring and the writers loosely based Peter and Sylar's opposing dynamic on that of Christ and Satan.....whic all goes back to an even more ancient fundamental idea of yin and yang. Law of duality. Peter is more emotion based, Sylar more analytical.
I see a lot of similarities between Peters character and Neo from the Matrix trilogy. And remember, Neo played on that whole story of Christ thing a little bit. Neo in the Matrix played off of the REAL story of superman (which Brian Singer stayed true to and recaptured in Superman Returns) Even Peter died and was resurrected. Ever notice how both superman and Peter died (sort of) with the shard of kryptonite / glass broke off inside of them. It's all a retelling of the story of the saviour god / hero.
Good topic monk, here's to hoping more fans become interested in this aspect of the show and it's charaacters......
