    Another few Matrix parallels:

In the first episode of season 1 (or maybe it was the second ep), entitled "Genesis," when Bennet is in Mohinder's cab, Bennet note's Mohinder's last name.  He says, "Suresh.  Must be a common last name where you come from, like Smith, or Anderson.  That CAN'T be a coincidence.

And in the episode "5 Years Gone," Peter is dressed in a coat much like Neo's, and they go into a GOVERNMENT BUILDING and take all the guards out IN THE LOBBY.

some of the lesser-evolved brain-damp people will always try to come out with the "leave religion out of the show" angle with different levels of IQ demonstration... do not let these spoil the intellectual discussion of the deeper transfusions of spiritual, binary and evolutionary symbols displayed in this show by kring...

"noah" bennet is trying to save the people from the oncoming flood of The Company and Sylar...

peter catches a falling dying nathan and flies him away to safety... much like neo and trinity...

no offence, but plenty of people have been saved via someone flying, e.i  superman, green lanter, silver sufrer, fantastic four, so that point really doesnt make sense, and Noah may just be a coincidence, if you havnt already noticed, THE HEROES ARE TRyING TO SAVE THE FLOOD of  the company and sylar from the people. i think u was looking for a relationship between noah and bennet, and if you havnt alreasyt realised, and i tottally disagree about ur religious hoob blah argument ^ . LOL ok ay okay, before anyone tries to even say heroes has copied Neo  the different stories which much copy the clothing style of neo: Hell boy, Blade and underworld. like it or not, that style has been done to death, so technically heroes is copying something which has been copying  dozens of tyms again and again.

you all think of peter as some kind of golden goody too shoes god, hes just a child, he gets his girl killed, who he stole from issac, he is ignorant of others aroudn him, such as nathan trying to be elected where as peters too importnat to even care, stop being blinded, if theres one thing heroes has taught us, is that you cant predict it.

Honestly, I don't think there is a specific Matrix parallel. I think that the creators of the show are just trying their best to stay true to the superhero/comic book genre by using common, recurring elements found in many other shows and movies of the genre. Let's face it, there are no more original ideas in the world...and in regards to showbiz it's all about taking that idea and making it your own. The creators of this show have definitley done a good job of taking common ideas and using them to their advantage.

As for the whole religion debate...so far, in every season of Heroes, there has been a predicted battle between good and evil, or a foretelling of an Apocalypse. No matter what religion (or non religion) you are, there are always stories of an apocalypse and a battle between good and evil, so it is impossible to completely leave religion out of this.

I think what makes this series Different from the rest is the Vast ethnic diversities protrayed in the show. Not only because of the people of different races but it also captures a bit of their culture. And that in addition  to the great amount of action and the tremendous storyline makes the series so addictive. I practically live on the internet, I barely watch Tv, up until 3 dats ago i knew nothing about 'Heroes' when i saw the triler on youtube i wat interested and after seeing the 1st episode i was addicted. i downloaded every episode  till presant and watched them all...

I just wanted to say that everyone should be entitled to their opinion and interpretation of hidden and obvious symbolism found in this show. I just wanted to add some things that I've noticed so far from the first season as I am watching the DVD set of the first season. Before you read this though, I am not particularly religious, I just thought it was cool to try to draw parallels to religion as the show is obviously doing (if you don't think so, just read below)...I just love the idea the show brings forth about Evolution and religion coexisting without conflict of one another. The ideas emanating from the show about adaptation to ones environment, natural selection and survival. Fate, destiny and God... extinction and speciation, free will and chance...The idea that we are evolving and have evolved and this mechanism was set into place long ago by an overseeing watchmaker...

Claire: In other languages can mean "light" or "clarity". This could have been chosen as a name for the fact that she can  be thought of as a light for other people in the show, all trying to find her in an attempt to save the world. Her character is very happy and at times hopeful perhaps shining as a light especially when times are dark in the storyline. She is contantly trying to put clarity to her life, and find out who she really is.

Noah: One of the more obvious symbolic names. As in the bible where Noah tried to salvage the different species of animals on the planet from a disaster, Noah Bennett is trying to help save the heroes in the show from the company or at least from evil things in the world that might harm or take advantage of them. In the bible, more specifically in the book of GENESIS (the same title of the first part of the show) Noah is very protective of his family as Noah Bennett is.

Elle Bishop and her father Bob Bishop: A bishop, is a position of authority in the Christian religion, similar to the authority Bob has as head of the Company.

Micah: Means in hebrew, "who is like God" perhaps in the sense of uniqueness. Also, Micah is about the most tolerant, understanding and caring person in the show. Many important biblical figures in the old testament are named Micah or similarly.

D.L. (Micah's father): stands for Daniel Lawrence. Daniel in hebrew and in the old testament means, "Judged by God" or "Judge of God" or "God is my Judge". Which is very appropriate considering the fact that his character is constantly being judged.

Maya Herrera: Symbolic for the ancient Mayan civilization that were situated in South Mexico where the character comes from.

Isaac/Sara: In the bible (Genesis) he is the son of Abraham and Sara which is the real name of Eden on the show. This is interesting as Eden/Sara acts like a motherly/caring figure to Isaac when he was getting over drugs. She took care of him and taught him how to control his powers. Isaac can paint the future, very interesting, I wonder if the biblical figure had premonitions...

Eden: This is an obvious one. Interestingly, she is persuasive much like the serpent of the garden of Eden was.

Adam: So obvious. Perhaps the first mutant/hero ever, much as Adam was the first human in the bible. Adam in the show is also immortal as Adam is considered the "Ancient of Days" is some biblical literature.

Matthew: Means, " Gift of the Lord" in Hebrew. Was one of Jesus' Apostles. I don't know enough but perhaps he can be attributed to being a man of justice or a listener as Mathew Parkman is in the show.

Nathan Petrelli: Nathan was the son of King David (of David and Goliath) which might have some analogy to Nathan Petrelli's father and Linderman (I dunno). And he is the older brother of Solomon. Also symbolized as the father of the Messiah, perhaps Claire becomes more important later in the show...

Agela Petrelli: The Angel of the Rock, mother of Peter and Nathan and grandmother of Claire.

Peter Petrelli: Petra meaning "rock" in Greek, Saint Peter, one of Jesus' Apostles, sometimes thought of as the first one and the first pope. Original name was Simon (interesting due to the linke with Simone Deveaux) was named Peter or "rock" by Jesus. Peter Petrelli is by far the most compassionate person on the show. He is also was willing to sacrifice his life to save Claire when he fell of the stands with Sylar, not knowing that he would regenerate thanks to Claire. He later dies and is ressurected by Claire (as I mentioned before, Claire can mean light so the "light" ressurected him). Ressurection seems to be recurring with this character. His interactions with the different characters in the show are very intriguing, almost as if the other heroes are his "disciples". He is able to absorb their powers...too cool. He is forgiving to his brother Nathan, he is humble and caring as is demonstrated with his profession (nurse). He is willing to sacrifice his life to save the world! I mean, this is too obvious, it is like Peter Petrelli is Jesus in the show.

Niki/Jessica: can mean Victory of Power in Greek. Jessica is also a name derived from Genesis of the Old testament (Jesca, niece of Abraham) where it may mean foresight/clairvoyance, or "to see" perhaps implying to look at her beauty, which the character obviously is.

Mohinder Suresh: Obviously looking for the truth as his father was, symbolically I haven't quite figured him out yet...his narrations about God, evolving toward our destiny and fate are all very philosophically religious. I could write an entire other reply just on the amazing narrations he has done concerning God and evolution and humanity and also because I am half Tamil which he is and my dad went to Chennai University which Mohinder teaches at and I am a Geneticist as well as an Evolutionary Developmental Biologist, which is just to cool to see a hero like him on  a show representing biologists like me...truly one of the coolest characters.

Gabriel Gray aka Sylar: Gabriel who is the chief messenger or archangel of God. First was mentioned in the Book of Daniel, referred to the "left hand of God" or "the embodiment of the Holy Spirit". He is sometimes considered the Angel of Death, the messenger of the "End of Days" to Daniel. Known to carry a sharpened Scythe, which is a sharp tool used for farming (interesting that he cuts peoples heads off in the show). Interestingly, he is the one who told Noah to gather the animals and told Abraham to not sacrifice Isaac (contrary to the fact that Sylar is the one who cuts Isaac's head off). He was introduced in the episode" Seven minutes to Midnight" which is interesting because he is one of the Seven Archangels. His character is so cool in the way he is trying to find all the heroes much like Noah Bennett is (which Sylar himself points out the similarities in the show). He tries so hard to find Claire (the light) too, but for a completely different and obviously evil (to kill and absorb) reason. He is the evil destroyer of the light which is Claire and Peter Petrelli is the ultimate protector of the "light" that is Claire.

And finally, the SYMBOL of the whole show. That helix that is partially crossed in three sections represents a dual meaning as does the word Genesis could be referring to Genesis of biology and genetics or Genesis of the Bible. This symbol seems to be a hybrid of the cross and a single helix or single strand of DNA. Perhaps it has something to do with two sacrificing for one or vice versa as there is two DNA bases on the left on the helix and one on the right. In the episode GODSEND, Ando and Hiro mention that the symbol is a hybrid symbol that means Godsend/special talent in ancient Japanese.   !!!!!!!!! SO people who carry that symbol are of special talents and are messengers of God as the symbol implies in ancient japanese, supported by Hiro's and Ando's interpretation. But which two to sacrifice for one...hmmm...perhaps Peter and Nathan for Claire...we will see...

Finally the other symbol, the solar eclipse...perhaps representing darkness taking of the light but, only temporarily as the messengers are activated or realize at that moment (which many do in the show) that they are chosen ones and must protect the world until the light comes out from the other side of the shadowing moon and leaves the sun shining bright with light (Claire or Peter or both perhaps)
