Hmmm.... maybe Sylar can't use his powers because their are special types of energy or enzymes or something that are used when you use your powers, and because he is healing from such a major injury, all his energy is being spent on recovery - even those that are for his powers...

Or maybe he's still in an illusion or the company took his powers away after he was stabbed or maybe your right...

i always thought that he had the same power that peter has but just has a mental block about it like so many of the other characters in the story. His mental block is that he has to kill people in order to attain their power. In one of the episodes he even said to peter your just like me.

i think evolution has taken its toll on sylar...i think he takes a part of that person's life..not only his brain, but his blood too..and he takes that people's dna and somehow becomes that person...and that way he gets their powers..pretty confusing.!!

Right, one thing that has had me wondering since I started watching this show: Sylars' ability - Sees how things work/absorbs other peoples' powers through unknown means. (Parasite) Ok, a leap of faith here, but hear me out... Sylar is possibly an Empath, like Peter... I know, you disagree, but here's the reasoning... Sylars base power is known to be that he sees how things work. His father was a watchmaker/mender, with an uncanny knack to doing it. How do we know that this ability didn't originate with Sylars father, who many people believe also has powers, and is maybe one of the infamous 12... With me so far? Sylar is an Empath, and absorbs peoples powers that he comes into contact with. When he met Suresh Snr. Chandra couldn't find an ability to speak of. In the same way, when Peter first visited Suresh Jnr. Mohinder couldnt find an ability for him. Sylar was unaware that he could absorb powers in this way, and is clearly insane. He gains his fathers power from working on watches with him, finds he can see 'how things work', like his father. He speaks to Dr. Suresh years down the line, and discovers that abilities are linked to a certain part of the brain. He obviously works out which part, as he can 'see' it due to the power he has. In his mind, he thinks that if he takes this part of the brain, he can pass the power onto himself, completely unaware that he is taking the power from just coming into contact with the person in question. He isnt aware that he is absorbing the power in the same way that Peter didnt know, and while Peter can use the power by thinking of the person he got the ability from, Sylar in turn uses the power by remembering what he did to gain it (bringing the person into mind at the same time) Would be a pretty cool way to explain it, without going into cannibal territory and possibly ruining it, eh? Anyone have any views on this?

I think Sylar has the virus (maybe early stage?) that is going around. I think that is why he cannot use his powers. If Nikki indeed has the disease, he could have been exposed to it at the end of last season. Maybe when Alejandro used his power in the car when the tears of death came a flowin' it not only cured the disease she was putting out, but ALL diseases in the area.... hence why he had such an evil look on his face shortly there after.

I think he had an evil look only because he now realized how much he could do by manipulating these people.

Well, I agree with everything you said bobby, except for using the term empath when describing the way Sylar attains his abilities. He obviously absorbs them somehow, but that's where the similarity ends. The term empathy is reserved strictly in relation to emotion or feelings, which is describes Peters method to a tee......and totally excludes Sylar from that conversation. Not to say that he doesn't feel anything, but when Sylar gains power, it's more of an analytical, mental exercise.

I agree with Anu Naki... It's a good theory, but I think Peter's empathic abilities allow his to feel for others and Sylar is like the polar opposite. Your right, bobby, that they are similair in ways, but like anu naki kinda said, Peter goes by feeling them in his heart, Sylar figures them in out in his brain...
