Intuitive Aptitude — (Base Power) Sylar has an intuitive understanding of how things work. It allows him to see and manipulate patterns within complex systems. It also allows him to alter his own DNA to acquire powers from his victims.

That sounds right dannyitfc. But I don't see why they had to make him eat brains in order to acquire DNA. That sounds silly. If they were embarrassed to talk openly about it, they should have just made him absorb it through his hands (on people's brains if you have to have that part), or by injecting their blood into his own (the reverse of what Adam and Claire can do), or something like that. DNA isn't just found in brains - it's in every cell.

I personally, think Sylar should have sexual inercourse with the victoms brain to acquire the power. Then eat it... Acctually, he should just either study it or intuitively see how it works inside his own mind and then magicly know how to apply it to his DNA...Posted 11/24/2007 3:09:41 AM #

1) Sylar definitely has a power- to see how things work. It's just not a very active or spectacular power, so he's jealous of everyone else's powers and wants to take them. This is obvious when in season 1, he has Nathan's appearance in the episode about the future and he tells Claire that he no longer has to take other people's powers -- he just needs to kill them all so he can become the best superhuman of all.
2) Here's what I think about how he takes others' powers. He slices a person's head near the hairline to "hear the tick" of the brain, to see how it works and how that particular section of the brain has the ability. It's definitely in the brain, because when both Peter and Claire were specifically hurt in the brain, they could not regenerate. Plus, Mohinder says that the abilities stem from the brain. SOOO, Sylar sees that area of the brain, understands how it works, and then imitates it.
3) As for why his abilities don't work anymore in season 2, I think he either has the virus or he's had some sort of overload.
4) I just want to say that I LOVE Peter. I remember thinking in early season 1 (before we knew what his power was) that although he's the hottest and most important protagonist of the show, he didn't really have a cool power. He could only fly with his brother...I thought their power was joint and could only work with each other or something. But his ability is the best of the best and I LOOOOVE that he's basically what Sylar wants to be, without blood on his hands. I bet Sylar's jealous. Sylar sometimes seems to be a moral man, so if he ever were to acquire Peter's power (God forbid!!!!!!!), he'd be ultimately happy to have all the powers ever, but he'd probably think all his previous killing to be worthless and he'd regret it. Not to mention, he probably would not have the same control as Peter and he'd kill himself. But let me stop thinking about it -- Peter must stay alive and Sylar must never get his ability!

But,
after he deals with them, their brains are gonne. Their skulls are left empty... He doesn't put the brain in his pocket... I agree that maybe he's not eating them, but he's got to do something with it, and has to do that fast cause in the restaurant, for example, he leaves a few seconds after killing the weitress. Maybe that's some power thay chose not to let us know about yet. Silar is the best charaster in the show cause Z. Quinto is imba actor, and cause of this mistery with he's powers and all. Whatching sceens with Sylar makes my skin crawl! :D

Sylar knows who's super power he wants and he goes and gets it ... he probably extracts the powers from the brain on a mental level hard to comprehend ! Now he is getting stronger !

Heres my kick at Sylar's method of obtaining powers: Take into account his base power [described by danny]: Intuitive Aptitude - Allows an intuitive understanding of how things work. It allows him to see and manipulate patterns within complex systems. It also allows him to alter his own DNA to acquire powers from his victims. Now, the only parts that really do apply is that he can understand intuitively how things work no matter how complex. The altering his DNA part is after he gets telekinesis. He was most likely able to get telekinesis by relying purely on his base ability's limited ability to alter his own DNA... but only after he learned about how it all works. Which is why he would take the brains from his first victims and study them along with medical books on the body -- letting his power absorb the information and then utilize it. Basically if you're able to fully understand how your own body works, you can actually control it with your own free will. After telekinesis he is able to more easily alter his DNA [telekinesis is the manipulation of matter even as small as molecules when mastered - since he has intuitive aptitude... he is able to master powers FASTER than others because he simply knows how they work!!! It's a godly power!]. After his research he probably destroyed them because he is a power hungry dude that doesn't believe others deserve their powers and would hate it if someone were able to obtain them the same way he did. So its more of an insurance policy. I don't believe he eats it because in Season 2 he breaks open the illusionist's head and attempts to obtain her power only to fail because his "hero" gene is inhibited by the virus. He never once took the brain out or even ate it... no blood on his hands, nothing -- he did not have enough time to do any of that in the room he was in. [Also note that his intuitive aptitude is unaffected by the virus because it's not actually a "hero" gene... rather a highly advanced normal human gene, which is why he doesn't consider himself all that special when he actually has a godly power].
