What powers does Sylar have?

You people think too much. Recall that Sylar wasn't supposed to be a main character. In fact, he wasn't supposed to be in more than a few episodes originally. Given that they didn't originally plan for his character to have a long storyline, they probably gave him mysterious abilities that they wouldn't have had they known he'd be a lasting character--abilities that they didn't think they would need to explain later (or make consistent with his current abilities). This type of thing hapens often on TV. Things that happen in the first few episodes (when execs don't even know if the show will last), that are later ignored by the writters so that the character can adapt to the new, more frequently occurring role, often are contrary to what happens far down the road.
Oh, and another thing I need to clear up. If Sylar really did lose his ability, which is what the show would have you believe for the moment, then he couldn't possibly have Candice's ability of "illusions".
Anyway, for an accurate description of Sylar's powers, go here: http://heroeswiki.com/Sylar

all right lets think about this. when the body of the docter that ted accidentaly killed the agent told matt that it was victim nine of the sylar M.O. so minus that there is eight. 0. his actual power which i call consumtion 1. the first we all know is that nervous guys telekinisis. 2-8 in there is cryokinisis and lets just count theSage ability (Charlies) also one might not exist for he might have had thought the father had the power not thinking it would be molly now he does not have edens persuasion or some episodes in the end of the first season would have ended different. now if that demonic voice is a power then i would think it is somekind of intimidation or doubt power. 9. zane dales super hearing. 10. issac mendezs prophetic imaging 11. ted's radiation/plasma power. 12. candace's illusionary skills. so thenif i'm right then there are three or four powers unaccounted for.Posted 10/30/2007 1:47:44 PM #

Okay people i really really want to know. How does Sylar take these powers from people? I have been asking this question for months. Does he eat their brain, drink their blood? SOME ONE REPLY PLEASE!

He does something with the brain. Whether it is eat it, I'm not sure. But all his victims are found with the top of their head cut off and the brain cavity empty. To the best of my knowledge, the brains are never found. It's pretty gross, but Sylar's not the most stable of individuals.Posted 11/5/2007 2:14:43 PM #

Kyz,
The deal with the cockroaches is this: In the very first episode, Suresh is lecturing on how the cockroach is the most genetically superior animal on the planet because of its ability to survive almost anything: nuclear explosion, head cut off, etc. There was a cockroach in Sylar's cell when they were experimenting on him. Now, they kill him, but he comes back to life. I think Sylar examined the cockroach's brain and input its "ability", which is why he survives the operation table as well as being stabbed by Hiro. He can be technically "dead" for some time and then revive himself. Also, technically, he could survive having his head cut off. I think that stealing Claire's power at this point would only allow him to regenerate faster. You also have to wonder exactly how many of Sylar's abilities Peter has absorbed. Unless Claire's power allowed him to survive exploding, it could have been the cockroach's ability.

sylar didnt examine the cockroaches brain. he survived being stabbed because candice/michelle pulled him into the sewer and took him to her employees who operated on him and saved his life.
the real deal with the cockroaches is that when ever you see one on the show you are introduced to a new charector

Well said directormerrick,
Is there anything in the paintings about the mexican girl and brother and our evil boy, Sylar, who's lost his powers? He's on his way to the good doc to find a dose of "Viagra-like super power recharge solution" with some crazed woman that kills everyone a la "death by octopus ink in the eyes", all at the same time that Doc Saresh is cocked and ready for action with his only real power, a gun, now that his blood is worthless against the virus.
I think Saresh is going down this season in a self-sacrifice style after he kills HRG. I think the "I can't break" girl is related to Adam, is the cure, and that there will be a huge new problem introduced after the virus is averted.... The crazed Mexican woman that kills everyone a la "death by octopus ink in the eyes" will have her powers controlled and augmented by Sylar, after eating Adam's brain which will make him immune to the "death by octopus ink in the eyes" effects.

can someone explain to me if the powers are genetic and chanti had a power prompting chandras reseach how come mohinder and chandra dont have any powers oh and sylar does have the ability to control people (eden )because he forces issac to get the painting before he kills him

rick - yes, it seems that at least the 'original base abilities' are genetic, but in Sylars case, he obtains them thru intuitive aptitude via the brain somehow. Peter attains them thru residual emulation. I was always under the impression that he did not aquire Eden's power of persuasion, even though it seemed that way since he used that 'scary voice' ability. It was either Tim Kring or Jeph Loeb that confirmed that Sylar DID NOT get Edens power before she blew her brains out. The demonic voice was just for dramatic effect, as was the case with Peter using it as well. Oh, and Mohinder has an ability - not so much a 'superpower' like the others, but powerful nonetheless, and he doesn't yet realize it. It's called remote viewing. All the times he thought he was dreaming of watching himself talk to his Dad, etc....his conscioussness was actually present, but invisibe somehow. It is not limited to the boundries of time or space - much like Hiros time space continuum power, just not physical in nature, but mental/spiritual
Oh, and to answer the question I've seen lately on these forums - Sylar did acquire Charlies 'super-memory'......whether she was going to die of a brain tumor or not. This was being debated for a while and it was confirmed by one of the writers a week or so ago in an article
