Tim Kring Promises Return to Roots

Heroes is headed for a franchise restart. For real this time.

So promises show creator Tim Kring, who released the following statement yesterday:

"This volume starts us pretty much from scratch. There is almost nothing that the audience needs to know from the previous volume in order to follow the storyline."

Show in Crisis

Following headlines such as this, the show needs to improve in multiple ways in order to survive past season three. Let's hope it does!

As for whether or not the series will be renewed for a fourth season, Angela Bromstad, NBC's president of primetime entertainment, sounded confident. But she also acknowledged the show's slippage.

"They may have taken on too much in terms of characters and multiple storylines," Bromstad said.

Heroes returns on February 2, as the characters will try to lead normal lives... until Claire discovers a plot to hunt down and capture those with powers, orchestated by Nathan
.

Zachary Quinto Meets Mr. Sylar

Heroes is moving full speed ahead with volume four of the show.

In fact, Zachary Quinto recently shot the episode that introduces his character's real dad, played by John Glover. The actor offered the following critique to Entertainment Weekly:

"He was the perfect choice," Quinto said of Glover. "The only downside was that we shot our scenes outside in a tarpaulin shack and it was pouring rain for two days, so we were literally slogging through mud. The logistics weren't that great, but the experience was. It traded off in the end."

Hayden: "Whew! When you told me you had something big and hard for me..."

Coming to Heroes: Swoosie Kurtz

Bryan Fuller's presence is already being felt on Heroes.

The Pushing Daisies creator, who is returning to Heroes about midway through its fourth volume, is bringing one of the former show's leading ladies with him.

Swoosie Kurtz will be reuniting with her former boss, according to a report in Entertainment Weekly.

Swoosie on Heroes

Kurtz's spokesperson says the actress has signed a deal to guest star in an April episode of the show, one by Fuller himself.

"Bryan wrote the part specifically for her," said Kurtz' spokesperson of her character, Millie, an old society friend of Angela Petrelli's. "It's a really fun role."

Heroes Producer Promises Changes

Rest assures, fans, Mark Verheiden knows Heroes has some problems.

In a new interview, the writer/producer says the show's staff is hard at work trying to improve upon the "Villains" volume.

"I think in going forward what we’re probably doing is leaving some of the stuff of Villains behind," Verheiden said. "You’ll see that Primatech and Pinehearst aren’t viable anymore. So those entities will be dissolved and a couple of characters have decided to, one in particular, taken a dramatic new turn that will set off where we’re going with “Fugitives" very clearly."

Other rumors and spoilers have revealed that the character in question is Nathan.

Kaito vs. Hiro

Let's hope one of the changes in store for Heroes involves a better use of Hiro.

As for the criticism that has befallen Heroes, Verheiden says the producers are aware of it.

"We listen to what the general drumbeat is and as we go forward, I think we’ve made some adjustments. But they were adjustments that were being made before all this stuff really came down," he said, adding that everyone is working to improve story lines:

"You don’t stay in the office until midnight and work seven days a week and all this stuff because you’re just knocking it out... [E]verybody who’s there is killing themselves to make the best show possible. You can’t fault us for lack of trying."
